ADDING FOOD TO WATER
Many people enjoy adding food to water, be it fruit, herbs or vegetables. Examples of this are cucumber, lemon, lime, strawberries, celery, coriander, basil, lemongrass, lychees, pineapple, peach mandarin, cinnamon, vanilla, broccoli, mint, watermelon, chili, tomato, grapefruit, berries or oranges. And rightfully so, combinations of these ingredients can create absolutely delicious refreshing healthy tasting water. As well as give you health benefits.
The pH of your water can absolutely be affected by what you add to your water. For example, if you add acid elements like lemon juice and infuse it in your water, it will lower the pH level. Like with our Alkaline Water Filters, only a few drops unfiltered water contaminating the filtered water, and the pH will go down. If you only put a small spoon of lemon juice into a tall glass of alkaline water, it may not alter much. But in a short glass it may.
MORNING BOOSTER SHOT
Ever since a cold winter’s morning a few years ago, I have been drinking almost daily a glass of what I call my Morning Booster Shot, to boost my health and body & blood pH. It basically consists of alkaline filtered water mixed with baking soda. To spice it up, I have added just that, a bit of spice, such as Cinnamon, Turmeric and Cayenne Pepper, as well as Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and Garlic. If you wish a sweeter tasting option, just add a little hiqh quality sugar free honey. I do not always mix them all together, I just do what I feel like each day, a bit of variation makes life more fun. Bottom line is I feel fantastic for it. I know my body is getting what it needs to really light up from the inside and keep a clean healthy balanced state, so I can enjoy life fully. But the urine pH will turn acid from it. The process within the body will however increase the blood pH.
I will now review each element used and explain why they are beneficial to add to your Morning Booster Shot.
- BAKING SODA -
Baking soda is one of those god send creations that has us wondering what we ever did without it. It is a wondrous multipurpose product, good for your health, as well as your home, the Egyptians loved using it for cleaning purposes. It wasn’t until 1860 that you saw it published in cookbooks, and further another 70 years before it was a household ‘proven medical product’. Baking soda stems from the natural mineral Natron, which contains large amounts of Sodium Bicarbonate, and has been used since ancient times. Many marketing fads have confused customers about needing to make sure they have aluminium free baking soda, a totally unnecessary ploy, as baking soda is naturally aluminium free. The pH of baking soda is pH 9-10.
The most common uses are for use in drinks to aid indigestion and heartburn, use instead of toothpaste and mouthwash, athletes take it before intense training to deter lactic acid buildup, making natural deodorants, soothing itches and irritations relating to skin conditions such as psoriasis, sunburn, insect bites, allergic rashes, and poison oak/ivy, aid kidney disease pH balancing, help fight cancer by increasing the pH of acidic tumors while maintaining the pH of the blood and healthy tissues, replenishing the bodys loss of bicarbonates during diarrhea, removing plaque when used as a nasal wash with cold & flu’s, reducing the risk of bladder infections, fighting feet odors, as a breath freshener, and of course, household cleaning, The list could go on.
- LEMONS -
Lemons and lemon juice are well known for their beautiful zesty fresh uplifting smell, as well as the many health benefits they provide. This even if lemon juice only has pH 2-3. Even if lemon juice is considered highly acidic, it is the effect the liquid consumed has internally on your body, and your blood pH, which is the reason for consuming this acidic ingredient. That and the flavour, it’s so yummy I could not consider a life without it.
The combination of lemon and baking soda claims to have a 10,000 times stronger effect on your body than chemotherapy and certain cancer drugs! Simply outstanding. Something so simple, is proven by numerous studies to outdo the effect of any cancer treatment, it contains flavonoids which have anticancer properties that will not harm the body. It has been tested and proved to destroy cancer cells in 12 different types of cancer, as well as prevent metastasis of cancer cells. Another benefit of adding baking soda to lemon water, is it not only makes the combination more powerful, but it also restores the pH to a normal level. The list of other health benefits from lemons is too long for this article, so we will discuss that in further detail in a separate article.
To mention a few key beneficial areas of using lemon: treating throat infections, indigestion and constipation, dental problems, lowering temperature when you have a fever, internal bleeding, rheumatism, burns, obesity, respiratory disorders, cholera and high blood pressure, strengthen your immune system, cleanse your stomach, purify your blood, great for kidney stones and reducing strokes, as well as excellent for hair & skin. Oh and of course, nothing beats a cool iced lemonade as a refreshing drink to cool you down on a hot day.
- CINNAMON -
Cinnamon is known as one of natures wonder medicines, a superfood ranking even higher than garlic and oregano. Cinnamon has many benefits and contains powerful antioxidants such as polyphenols that protect the body against oxidative damage caused by free radicals. It further helps boost metabolism, helps the body fight infections and repair tissue damage, it may drastically reduce the risk of heart disease, reduces blood pressure, positively affects blood markers for type 2 diabetes patients, reduces levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, while HDL cholesterol remains stable.
It further improves sensitivity to the hormone insulin which is the key regulator of metabolism and energy use, lowers blood sugar levels, has a powerful anti-diabetic effect as it greatly improves glucose uptake by cells, has a beneficial effect on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, reduces the growth of cancer cells and the formation of blood vessels in tumors, helps fight bacterial and fungal infections, and may help fight the HIV-1 virus. Cinnamon is considered alkaline food.
- APPLE CIDER VINEGAR (ACV) -
Yet another of natures wonder remedies with near a thousand uses, with a pH of 2-3.4, for your home and your health. ACV is made from fermenting apples, and is one of the most powerful detoxifying agents that helps to cleanse the entire digestive system. ACV has the power to clean the blood during the oxidation process, and is packed with a multitude of vitamins, minerals, pectin and beta-carotene.
The most commonly known health benefits of ACV include detoxifying and weight loss, arthritis management, reducing high cholesterol, diabetes control, diarrhea relief, depression management, asthma prevention, supporting heart health, skin care help with oily, acne-prone or scarring, increases bowel regularity, and helps fight cancer. Drinking apple cider vinegar everyday will make your skin and body glow, and neutralize any free radicals on the loose, that are what wreak havoc and cause ageing, as well as potential cancerous growths.
- TURMERIC -
The bright coloured Indian herb has a striking yellow colour, and is best known for colouring rice, and Indian cooking. It is however yet another of Mother Natures natural wonder medicines, with a plethora of benefits for your health. Curcumin is the active ingredient of this super herb, and it is one of the most common form of medicinal herbs used today.
It is known to heal wounds, maintain your cognitive abilities, ease menstrual pains, reduce inflammations, eliminate depression, alleviate pain, slow the aging process, protect the digestive tract, and prevent cancer. It is anti-inflammatory, it is very good for soothing constipation, cramping, bloating and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as balance mood swings.
- CAYENNE PEPPER -
Cayenne pepper is considered alkaline food, not to be compared with black pepper, which is considered a highly acidic food. It is made from the green or red chili pepper, and also known as mirchi. This is another herb well known from Indian cooking.
Cayenne pepper contains vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin K, carotenoids and B complex. It is also a source of potassium, manganese, calcium and dietary fiber.
Its benefits include increasing blood circulation and immunity, improve digestion, rheumatism and arthritis, clear congestions and headaches, help with weight loss and asthma, and treats heart diseases, dyspepsia, inflammation, headaches, and throat congestion.
- GARLIC-
Garlic is the oldest medicinal plant or spice known to man in existence. Sir Louis Pasteur started using this wonderspice’s antibacterial abilities in pasteurization all the way back in 1858, but it was discovered a whopping 3,000 years ago! It contains minerals like phosphorous, calcium & iron, and also trace minerals like iodine, sulfur & chlorine. It is a rare source of allicin, also known as the organic compounds allisatin 1 & 2.
The essential chemical compound in garlic is called allicin, and this is what gives its many medicinal qualities. Containing sulfur, allicin is the main reason for the strong smell and pungent qualities not all appreciate. The health benefits however are unsurmountable. It was also the key tool used during WW2 by surgeons, as an antiseptic treatment for wounds when there was no medicine available.
Garlic has antiviral, antifungal and antibiotic properties and has beneficial effects on diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, eye care, earaches, clears up most intestinal problems like dysentery, diarrhea and colitis, and is great for treating colds, coughs and infected wounds, aid digestion, acne, asthma and sexual problems. It also reduces the risk of colon, stomach and esophageal cancer, reduces the production of carcinogenic compounds and the occurrence of tumors related with breast cancer, and lastly helps fight heart conditions & lowers blood pressure.
- HONEY -
Honey is another ancient wonder medicine delivered to us in its purest form by the wonderful Mother Nature. It is a staple ingredient in Ayurvedic treatment, and is widely used by scientists in researching modern medicine, especially in relation to healing of wounds, where it is known to work wonders.
Being an excellent alternative to sugar, this natural sweetener and energy booster will not only make your life taste good, but also help pinch that waistline and help you lose weight. Being great at maintaining blood sugar levels, it is a great aid for any muscle work or restoration, as it helps restore glycogen and balance glucose levels. It contains vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron and Vitamin C, is a powerful antioxidant, as well as has excellent antifungal antibacterial abilities.
As mentioned, adding acidic foods to your water will for sure make the pH decrease, but the reason for using them and alkaline foods, is ultimately to balance and increase your blood pH.
